Praying for Farmers
The Safety Net Prayer Ministry was founded in 1995 by Rev. Dr. Karl Goodfellow. After seeing the needs of rural communities, he was inspired to develop a plan to make changes, through prayer, for a better world.
Because America finds its roots in farming, Rev. Goodfellow concentrated on helping the farmers. Farming is considered one of the most dangerous occupations, so farm safety becomes a paramount issue. Social and economic forces also erode small farms and the communities they support.
In 1995, Rev. Goodfellow linked 1200 people in churches across Northeast Iowa to pray daily for 12,000 farmers through the harvest season. In 1996, the Safety Net Prayer Team grew to 5000 intercessors praying for 50,000 farm families across Iowa, with expansion to Wisconsin and Ohio in 1997. In 2005, we have prayered for Illinois farmers and other Midwest communities.
Whether through God’s intervention or a caring human hand, miracles have happened. Letters and phone calls have expressed positive changes in people’s lives. People have become aware of the struggles farmers face. Farmers have appreciated the concern and felt less isolated. There were also reports of prevented accidents and reduced stress.
People’s prayers and outreach became an expression of God’s love and we’d like to do it again. Join with us to share good will throughout Rural America.
